SCHOOLS FOR JAMIE FUND   28/04/2015

Dear Colleagues,

As many of you are aware a recent graduate teacher from Mary Immaculate College, Jamie Wall, has been fighting back since an epidural abscess on his spine left him paralysed from the waist down.

"His life was changed utterly last June when — just days after being part of Cork’s Munster intermediate winning hurling team — what had been a dull ache in his back accelerated and he was unable to walk. He was diagnosed with an epidural abscess on the spine, which has since left him paralysed from the midriff down.

In February he returned to Kilbrittain, his parents Michael and Shelia and younger siblings Ellen, Philip and Katie, having spent four and a half months in the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dun Laoghaire. He’s adjusting to such a seismic change to his life that it’s hard for the rest of us to even fathom." - Evening Echo Friday April 24th

Jamie has been a keen sportsman his entire life and has represented Cork at Minor and Under 21 levels in both hurling and football. He played on, and was central to, a star studded Mary Immaculate College Fitzgibbon Cup team and has represented his club, Kilbrittain, and his division, Carbery, with distinction.

Jamie always wanted to be a teacher and indeed had secured employment in Ennis where he was due to start teaching last September. Indeed, his mother Sheila teaches in Ballinspittle NS under principal Tommy Gunning.

Earlier in the school year Mr Gunning wrote to INTO Branches and Districts looking to raise funds for the 'Friends of Jamie Wall Trust'. The response was tremendous, however, we in District 16 felt that we could do more. In light of Jamie's love of GAA we set about organising a District 16 Fun GAA Football Blitz for 3rd Class in order to raise funds to aid Jamie's rehabilitation.

This blitz will take place on Tuesday May 19th in two venues: Carrigtohill GAA Club and Mallow GAA Club. Schools entering are asked to choose which venue would suit them more. The blitz is non-competitive and follows the Mini 7s format (team of 7, panel of 10).

Cost of entry is €20 per team entered, however, if schools would like to contribute more then that would of course be much appreciated. Also, we are aware that this time of the year is very busy for schools and they may not be able to enter a team, however, it is hoped that they would still be willing to contribute to such a worthy cause.

Attached is an entry form which can be returned via email. Also attached is a poster promoting the blitz which I would hope you would display in your staff room or in a prominent place in the school.

Please support this worthy cause for this outstanding individual. If you would like to learn any more about Jamie and his recovery please click of the links below.

Closing date for entries is Tuesday 12th May.

 Kindest regards,

Rory Gibbons, Paul Moroney and Andrew Bowen
